Lane County School District Number 90 (District) and the Oregon School Employees Association Chapter 99 (Association) met on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 5:30 p.m. via zoom to continue negotiations on the reopening of articles VII, Salary and Compensation and IX, Insurance and Health Benefits, of the 2019-2022 collective bargaining agreement. The District gave a counter proposal to the Association.
The Districts’ total compensation package ranks highly in comparison to other local Districts, and the District’s 2-year proposal includes:
- A step increase for eligible employees.
- A zero percent increase on the salary schedule for the current year, and a one percent increase on the salary schedule for the 2021-2022 year.
- An increase of $66.54 towards the District health insurance contribution for the current year, and a zero increase towards the District health insurance increase for the 2021-2022 year.
The parties did not reach agreement on any Articles.
We are currently facing economic unknowns due the COVID pandemic, but it was important for us to demonstrate the value we place on our classified staff by offering a contract that would provide the same dollar increase in insurance benefits and identical salary percentage increase that district teachers and confidential staff will receive during the current period.
The District offered a package identical to that received by the other employee groups, but during discussion of the proposal, the Association emphasized their desire to see the proposed increase in the District’s health insurance contribution. The Districts most recent proposal moves the salary increase to the insurance contribution while maintaining step increases for eligible employees.
The parties will meet again on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. via zoom to continue negotiations.
